These images allow you to compare what London 100 years ago looked like compared to the present day

The city of London boasts a long and fascinating history and some of the most iconic buildings anywhere in the world.

Thanks to a fantastic online archive of images courtesy of ongoing project London Past, we've been able to find pictures of the capital stretching back more than 100 years and compare them with the how the city looks today.

Some of the pictures capture London at the height of Victoria's reign while the London Past archive — which is being added to every week — contains images stretching back even further.

Ludgate Hill (date unknown) — This picture shows a busy scene on Ludgate Hill with the iconic St Paul's Cathedral towering in the background.

Ludgate Hill (present day) — St Paul's remains standing but the rest of the street has changed. The area around the cathedral, which is also home to Fleet Street, where many of the countries newspapers were based, was heavily damaged during The Blitz during World War Two.

Old War office building, Whitehall (1902) — This picture shows the procession for the coronation of King Edward VII passing the construction of The Old War Office building.
